Eight weeks -Africa Bow to Stern! – Starboard side

August 17, 2010

Ann Arbor, MI

Life has a way! It always finds a way! For me that means it has a way of working out and giving me opportunities previously thought to have been impossible. So in two days, after having been through the body meets SUV experience in early June and the departure from my employment later that same month, I find myself embarking on 8 weeks to the continent of the cradle of Mankind… the Dark Continent… AFRICA!

  1. 8/17 Detroit – New York – Cairo
  2. 8/18 – 8/23 EGYPT: Cairo, Giza, Hurghada, Nile
  3. 8/24 – 3/30 TANZANIA: Dar Es Salaam, Zanzibar, Arusha,
  4. 8/31 – 9/8 KENYA: Nairobi, Massai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Lamu Archipelago
  5. 9/9 – 9/25 MADAGASCAR: Destinations unknown (suggestions?)
  6. SOUTH AFRICA: Johannesburg
  7. 9/26 – 9/27 SOUTH AFRICA: Johannesburg
  8. 9/28 – 10/2 BOTSWANA: Okanvango Delta, Chobi
  9. 10/3 – 10/5 ZIMBABWE: Victoria Falls
  10. 10/6 – 10/13 SOUTH AFRICA: Cape Town and surrounding areas, Johannesburg
  11. 10/14 HOME!!!

So as I sit here running around the house.. clothes all over the living room floor, eyes bleary from not enough sleep, I stopped to find my travel journal to pack it. As I peruse the last big trip from Asia with Gino I read the first entry and I am just chuckling as it could have been written this morning. It seems three short years ago I was heading out to Asia and was packing my new camera (I just bought a new one yesterday), forgetting something (I bought the wrong size shirt), trying to collect everything together at the last minute (I have 7 hours to my flight) and finalizing an itinerary (I’m STILL not sure whether I’m headed to Nairobi or Dar Es Salaam first).

Damn.. I don’t have room for my meds! However that all said, I have a smile on my face even if the butterfly migration seems to have blossomed in my gut. Out of all the places I have been I think this will be the most challenging and I feel like I should know more than I do… but then I know that is what makes my experiences (for me!) that much better in the end.As things stand today here is the planned itinerary:

I will be trading my faithful sidekick Gino on this trip for several folks as it takes a group to replace that personality! In Egypt, Michelle from NY will be joining me.. in Madagascar, I will be joining Pat (of Nepal fame!). I am hoping that when I am in Tanzania I can connect with my friend Ingrid whom I just discovered was there on her journey at the same time I am!OK.. back to the chaos, too much sitting on my butt 🙂

P.S. if you wish to not receive these updates please don’t hesitate to let me know and I’ll remove you from the list!

  • Fascinating blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A design like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where you got your theme. Appreciate it

  • Things i have often told folks is that when you are evaluating a good on the net electronics retail store, there are a few issues that you have to remember to consider. First and foremost, you would like to make sure to look for a reputable and in addition, reliable shop that has obtained great critiques and scores from other people and marketplace advisors. This will make certain you are handling a well-known store that delivers good service and aid to the patrons. Many thanks sharing your opinions on this website.
